Up to December, we received a large number of
announcements of participation in reply to the Call for Participation of CESCG 2011.
Thus, we are proud to publish the preliminary program of
CESCG 2011.
Unfortunately, we were not able to accomodate all requested slots,
but we have tried to make a fair selection. Please have a look at the list of talks below and
send us as soon as possible the information still missing in the table (names, talk titles).
To prepare the successful preparation of printed
proceedings and web proceedings for the seminar, we want to remind
the participants about how to proceed in preparing their
contributions. The detailed timetable can be found in the Call for Participation.
Please note that this year there were again some changes to the LaTEX template,
as well as new instructions for providing images, so please review them carefully!
A Note to Participants |
Participants are required to upload a zipped
version of their submission (including possible supplementary material like additional images,
movies, ..., for reviewing) via our submission web page
by February 02, 2011, 23:59 CET at the latest.
Note that also this year we do not require an anonymous version.
The material will then be distributed for reviewing.
Reviews will be sent to the authors by February 05, 2011.
Final submissions must be uploaded by March 31, 2011, 23:59 CET
at the latest. Submissions which are uploaded after this deadline cannot be published in the
printed version of CESCG 2011 proceedings. As the HTML version
of the proceedings will be prepared in parallel with their printed
version, the HTML files have to be here by the same deadline as well.

carefully, such that we have no problems to include all the
contributions in the proceedings. Please recall that only
those contributions are included in any form of seminar proceedings
that conform to the "Guidelines for Authors" as specified at
http://www.cescg.org/guidelines/!

Please also make sure that all participants of CESCG 2011, esp. the
speakers and supervisors, do register as early as possible
via the registration page!

Tomoyuki NISHITA, Japan | Realistic Rendering of Natural Phenomena The simulation of various natural phenomena is one of the important research fields in computer graphics. In particular, aspects such as clouds, water, smoke, and sands are indispensable for creating realistic images of natural scenes. Therefore, a lot of researchers have been trying to develop methods for simulating and rendering these scenes. In my presentation I focus on water, granular materials, clouds, atmospheric effects. These phenomena have the common feature that they are consist of the effects of small particles. And the color greatly depends on the properties of light scattering due to particles. To create realistic images, physical based simulation and rendering are required. In particular, the color greatly depends on the properties of light scattering due to particles. I would like to introduce efficient methods for creating realistic images of such natural phenomena. Recently, the results of particle-based simulati
ons have been often visualized using a large number of metaballs. I introduce a fast technique for rendering metaballs on the GPU. | Chris WOJTAN, Austria | Deformable Surfaces with Topology Changes for Physics-Based Animation Accurate computational representations of highly deformable surfaces are indispensable in the fields of computer animation, medical simulation, computer vision, digital modeling, and computational physics. After reviewing common representations of deformable surfaces, I will present some of my recent contributions to the field of computer graphics.
I will first present results from an algorithm that generates highly detailed continuum mechanics animations by combining a finite element method with a tetrahedral mesh generator and a high resolution surface mesh. Next, I will present an efficient solution for the challenging problem of computing topological changes between detailed surface meshes, allowing us to track surfaces in computational fluid dynamics applications with unprecedented levels of accuracy and detail. This surface tracking technique also opens the door for a unique coupling between surficial finite element methods and volumetric finite difference methods, in order to simulate liquid surface tension phenomena more efficiently than any previous method. Due to its dramatic increase in computational resolution and efficiency, this method yielded the first computer simulations of a fully developed crown splash with droplet pinch off. |
