We are proud to announce the fourth Central European Seminar on Computer Graphics for students to be held in Budmerice (right before SCCG 2000) in early May, 2000. This international seminar is a continuation of CESCG '97, CESCG '98, and CESCG '99, and previously held joint seminars. CESCG is organized by the Institute of Computer Graphics, Vienna University of Technology, and the Department of Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Comenius University, in Bratislava.
We are pleased to invite the following groups (in alphabetical order) to participate by sending students to the seminar:
Austria | Graz | Institute for Computer Graphics, Graz University of Technology
Linz | Department of Information Systems (GUP), Johannes Kepler University of Linz
Vienna | Institute of Computer Graphics, Vienna University of Technology
Croatia | Zagreb | Department of Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer and Intelligent Systems, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb
Czech Republic | Brno | Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Brno University of Technology
Department of Software Systems and Communications, Masaryk University Brno
Ostrava | Department of Computer Science, Technical University of Ostrava
Plzen | Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Computer Science, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
Prague | Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague
Hungary | Budapest | Computer Graphics Group at the Department of Process Control, Technical University of Budapest
Slovakia | Bratislava | Department of Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Comenius University in Bratislava
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
Slovenia | Ljubljana | Laboratory of Computer Graphics and Multimedia, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana
Maribor | Laboratory for Computer Graphics and Artificial Intelligence, Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor |
Initially we invite all the groups mentioned above to send two students to give a talk at CESCG 2000. Also, participants who just whish to attend the presentations and discussions are kindly invited. Please note that (active) participation must be announced via email to cescg#cg.tuwien.ac.at until January 11, 2000 - otherwise an active participation will not be possible!
The tight restriction of two talks per group is due to the high number of invited groups and due to the two-days schedule of the seminar. However, it might be the case that not all of the invited groups are able to send two students. In this case additional free slots for participation would be available after the participation announcement deadline. Groups interested to send more than two students should clearly state this within the email-announcement of participation so that their wish can be taken into account when compiling the preliminary program.
The main idea of CESCG is to bring undergraduate students, who are interested in computer graphics, together across borders of universities and countries. The seminar is also intended to be an international event, where students can present their excellent work to other students. Actively participating students are, therefore, required to study computer science (or something similar) for at least five or six semesters. Sufficient expertise in giving a talk as well as reasonable knowledge of english language is also required for active participation.
Of course, the overall topic of the CESCG is computer graphics. Specifically the following fields are covered by the seminar:
This year we concentrate on "Computer Graphics at the turn of the century".
CESCG is planned to be held in Budmerice on May 1-3, 2000. Students have enough time to arrive at Budmerice on the first day (in time), even from the far locations. There are approximately twenty talks (including time for discussions) scheduled for both days in total. The program of the seminar is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Time for lunch and coffee breaks is reserved as well. After the first day of seminar, there is social program in the evening, e.g. going to a pub, and a possibility to sleep in Budmerice.
The seminar language is English. The contributions are submitted in HTML and some directly printable format for printed proceedings (device-independent PostScript or PDF; no source like TeX or even Word). To ensure some typographic quality of the seminar proceedings, all submissions have to follow the guidelines for authors available at http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG/guidelines/. A LaTeX 2e class (implementing these guidelines) and a Word97 template can be downloaded from this web-page.
To get an impression about how the HTML pages should look like, authors shall look at the `CESCG - Web Proceedings' at http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/studentwork/CESCG/proceedings.html. It is an index to previous CESCG contributions and results of previous Joint Seminars.
Note that only those contributions are included in the seminar proceedings, that conform to the guidelines specified above.
To prepare a successful seminar, it is necessary to coordinate several groups in different countries. It is obvious that this can only work if all the participating groups stick to the schedule of the seminar. The schedule for CESCG 2000 is as follows:
December 7, 1999 | Call for Participation sent to invited groups. |
January 11, 2000 | Deadline for eMail-Announcements of Participance. |
All participants - not necessarily known personally at this time - must be announced to the organizers in Vienna (eMail to cescg#cg.tuwien.ac.at) by this day. Even if the exact topics and names of students who will contribute to the seminar are not known to the local organizers by this date, at least the required number of slots must be announced.
January 19, 2000 | Preliminary Program sent to participants. |
April 6, 2000 | Submission Deadline. |
By this day, all contributions must be submitted to server ftp.cg.tuwien.ac.at (directory /pub/CESCG/2000/upload/) via FTP. Note that both the HTML- as well as the printable Version (Postscript or PDF) of the contribution must be submitted. Please refer to the Upload-Guidelines, available via URL ftp://ftp.cg.tuwien.ac.at/pub/CESCG/2000/upload/, before You send files.
April 13, 2000 | Final Program will be sent to participants. |
May 1-3, 2000 | CESCG 2000 will take place in Budmerice castle. |
In case you have any questions or recommendations, please send an eMail to cescg#cg.tuwien.ac.at. CESCG 2000 is organized by Helwig Hauser (formerly [not ;-] known as Helwig Löffelmann) and Thomas Theußl in Vienna and Andrej Ferko and Silvester Czanner in Bratislava.
